20031016 Maasai Mara National Park

This is the largest NP in Kenya, adjoining to Serengati in Tanzania. The savannah attracts lots of animals here incl. the “Big 5” namely lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo. The annual migration of wildebeest andzebra across the border is extravagant. Once leopard or cheetah is potted, almost every car would flock in instantly through radio communication. It is regulated that tourists should stay at least 20m away from the animals and should not drive out of the existing tracks, but most of the drivers would explore new path and inch closer until satisfying the photographing needs, sometimes as close as 2m. There are several Maasai cultural villages, I paid USD20 admission fees. As expected, we were welcomed with songs and Maasai unique leaping dance. Too commercial, but fun.

Sarova Mara Lodge - luxurious quality tent Wildebeest migration. Cheetah mama and 3 cubs. Young lion Giraffe mating (the gun is out) They walked casually passing us in very close range. Maasai dancing, welcomed us to the cultural village.

Maasai singing for wedding ceremony. Traditional communication with horn. Denis (right) is his Christian name, he is educated and speaks fluent English.
