20031011 Aberdare National Park
The Treetops Hotel is unique. No one is allowed to walk around the compound without armed guide of the ranger. Water was pumped into the man-made shallow pond in front of the hotel, with some salt added to it. This so-called “salt lick” is important for animal mineral intake (I learned something new). All visitors stayed on the roof chatting and enjoying this exotic environment / atmosphere, but getting bored soon because not too many beasts like to show up in the day time. At night, whenever a big beast approached, someone would ring the bell to notify the rest. I was too tired to sleep tight throughout the night.
