20030619 Paris City
Honestly I did not prepare myself well for this tour, not even a proper guidebook of this metropolis. A metro map was all my guide. The 69m Notre Dame was my first destination. The architecture is excellent and very well preserved. Grand! The spiral staircase led me to the tower top, but Quasimodo, the bell ringer was no longer there. The chimeras / gargoyles were observing the city days and nights. This was my 1st climb.
Tour Eiffel was my 2nd destination. So striking! So impressive! Not just a dull monotonous steel tower as seen on TV. Parisians must be proud of this country icon. There was a thick crowd of tourists, and a long long queue waiting for the lift. “Heh… I’m young, I can climb (only up to 1st and 2nd level),” I told myself. The 1st level was OK, but I was so exhausted when managed to the next. It gives good panoramic view of Paris. This was my 2nd climb.
Next, Arc de Triomphe, again, I paid the entrance ticket to enter the building. The museum was not so impressive. Tourists mostly gathered on the roof top watching the heavy congested traffic in Paris. At least I could tell you that I have been up there in Arc de Triomphe. This was my 3rd climb.
Proceeded to Montmartre, wanted to see Sacre Coure. The church was set on the hill in the city. Seems to be a popular spot to watch sunset. Plenty of artists offered to draw you a portrait for Euro50. The climb to Sacre Coure was not tiring as earlier, but this 4th climb has drawn the last bit of energy from my muscles.
Pigalle is just a short distance away. The area is full of sex shops, sex cinemas etc. The famous Moulin Rouge is also located here. A ticket of this show is far too expensive to my budget. And, strictly official smart wear!
